Simple Plan & GOB @ Akasaka Blitz (26th April '03)
The Canucks are Coming! The Canucks are Coming!
| May was a good month for Canadian music in Japan. Things started off with Canada's pop-punk superstars Sum 41 playing a string of sold out dates across Japan. It's ending with current pop "it" girl Avril Lavigne playing shows in Osaka and Tokyo. Generating an enormous amount of press and exposure everywhere she goes, she's decided to use this to help out her fellow countrymen, bringing along up and comers Gob and Simple Plan for the ride. In order to prepare for their shows with Avril, Gob and Simple Plan decided to kick their week off by playing a show on their own at Akasaka Blitz.

| With several hundred folks in attendance, Vancouver's Gob ran out on stage and instantly kicked into the lead off track off their new album, Foot in Mouth Disease, "Lemon-Aid". Watching the crowd bouncing around on the floor and cheering it was hard to tell that this was the punk quartet's first trek to Japan. Playing several cuts off of Foot in Mouth Disease, along with a handful of older material the band seemed to relish the amount of attention they were receiving from the crowd. Singer/guitarist Theo Goutzinakis went out of his way to scream "Tokyo, Japan" during every break after seeing how much applause it got him when he first said it at the beginning of the show. Promising to come back as soon as they can, possibility in August, the group finished their set and then headed out to the merch tables to chat with their new fans.
