今回のUKツアーでは追加日程も入れて全部がソールド・アウトになったエディターズ。ロンドンでは4700人キャパのブリクストン・アカデミーにて3日連続でのライブとなった。
1曲目からつい今月にシングル発売になったばかりのアルバム・タイトル・トラック、『An End Has A Start（アン・エンド・ハズ・ア・スタート）』を演奏。しょっぱなから観客が沸きあがるは、バンド側もものすごい飛ばしてる感じあるはで破格なスタートを切った。それでもただ単に「勢い」だけで飛ばすだけのライブではなく、中盤では少々ペースダウンして「聴かせる」感じも作られていた。そしてアンコール前の最後の曲、『Munich（ミューニック）』では再び勢いを増し、危険なほどに観客を暴れさせた。 アンコールではニュー・アルバムからの最初のシングルである『Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors（スモーカーズ・アウトサイド・ザ・ホスピタル・ドアーズ）』を演奏したのだが、これが今までの彼らのライブでは感じさせなかった壮大感があった。観客のリアクションを見ていても、ユーフォリアそのもの。両手を上げ、大合唱をしている。背筋がぞくっとするほどの高揚感を覚える。無機質なほど冷たく暗い上に飛ばすイメージのある曲が多い彼らではあるが、これは新たなる発見といった感じであった。 この日は普段は割と地味に演奏しているベースのラッセルがアンコールにてスーパーマンのマントを羽織って登場するなどお茶目なところもご披露。相変わらずほとんどMCの無い彼らではあるがこんな風におどけることも出来るのならそれも自信の表れなんだろう。2005年のデビュー以来、流行の波には一切乗らずに着実に、しかも順調に人気を上げてきている彼ら。まだこれからも予想を超える展開を見せて行くのではないだろうか。 comment and photos by emi |
