今回のエフタークラングのUKツアーでは大きな問題に衝突。ライブ・メンバーであるアメリカ人のピーターが入国審査官より入国拒否の決断を下されてしまったとか。そしてやむなく初日のサウスハンプトン日程はキャンセルとなってしまった。
この日はクラシック・コンサートも開ける全指定席制の立派なコンサート会場。音響効果は抜群である。繊細な音まで崩れることなくはっきり聴こえるのだ。まさに音が空間いっぱいに広がり、輝いてる感じだった。ピーターが不在ということで彼の担当するバイオリンは無しでの演奏だったが、もしこれでバイオリンが入ったらただものじゃないくらいにすばらしいんだろうなと想像してしまった。それでも物足りなさを一切感じさせなかった辺りは、彼らの音楽には緻密性と順応性もあるんだと発見したり。 彼らの音楽は一口には表現しがたい。クラシック、エレクトロポップ、アンビエントをあわせたようなアートっぽい音楽ではあるのだが、目を瞑るとなんだか情景が浮かんでくるような不思議な感覚に包まれる。そしてその情景はまるで童話のような非現実的なものなのだ。この日のアンコールではメンバー全員がいきなり列になってステージから降りてきて、太鼓を叩きながら、トランペットを吹きながら、そして手拍子で歌いながら客席を一周した。なんだか『ハーメルンの笛吹き男』を連想してしまった。あのまま観客が列に歌いながらついて行ったら、下手したらそのままどこかに連れて行かれたのかな、などと想像してみたり。 1時間ちょっとの夢のような空間を繰り広げたライブだった。最後には観客が総立ちになって暖かい拍手を送る。ステージ上のメンバー達も、観客達もみんな笑顔だった。 comment and photos by emi |
